Blood vessels and Cardiovascular System Flashcards
What vessels carry blood?
The Veins, Arteries and Capillaries.
What is the function of the Aorta?
Transports oxygenated blood from the ventricle to body cells.
What is the function of the Vena Cava?
Transports deoxygenated blood from the body to the right atrium.
What is the function of the Pulmonary Artery?
Transports deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle to the lungs.
What is the function of the Pulmonary Veins?
Transports oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left atrium.
What is the function of the Right Atrium?
The Right Atrium receives deoxygenated blood from the body cells.
What is the function of the Tricuspid Valve?
The Tricuspid Valves stops the backflow of blood from the Right Ventricle into the Right Atrium, when the ventricle contract.
What is the function of the Right Ventricle?
The Right Ventricle receives blood from the right atrium.
What is the function of the Pulmonary Valve?
The Pulmonary Valve stops the backflow of blood into the Right Ventricle from the Pulmonary Artery.
What is the function of the Left Atrium?
The Left Atrium is the chamber that receives oxygenated blood from the lungs.
What is the function of the Bicuspid Valve?
The Bicuspid Valve stops the backflow of blood from the Left Ventricle into atrium when the ventricles contract.
What is the function of the Left Ventricles?
The Left Ventricles receive blood from the Left Atrium.
What are three malfunctions of the Cardiovascular System?
Hypertension, Coronary Heart Disease and Atheroma.
What is a treatment for Cardiovascular malfunctions?
Angioplasty - a microscopic deflated balloon pushed into the artery and inflated, opening the artery.
What is a way of diagnoses for Cardiovascular malfunctions?
Angiogram - type of x ray that uses a dye visible on x rays, so coronary arteries can be seen.
