Oil surface finish
soaks into wood, provides protection and water resistance when penetrating the wood, replenishes wood’s natural oils when lost through age,exposure and wear
Paint surface finish
needs primer before paint, gives colour and a layer of protection against weathering
Varnish surface finish
transparent, enhances natural grain of the timber, protects from moisture, could yellow over time
Wax surface finish
enhances natural colour and gives shine, protects wood from moisture
Wood preservative surface finish
protects from fungal or insect attack, prevents rot and decay, needs regular application
Stain surface finish
stains wood, colour can be affected by the base wood, does not protect
