sheared from sheep or alpaca, the staple fibres are cleaned, carded and spun into yarn
How is silk made into fabric
silk moth cocoons are harvested, heated and spun into a filament fibre
How is polyester made into fabric
polyester chains are extracted from oil and are forced through a small hole into a filament fibre

soft, strong absorbent, washes and takes dyes well, range of clothing, towels, bed sheets
Silk properties and uses
soft, fine, lightweight, natural shine due to triangular structure, luxury clothing, underwear ties, wall hangings, nigh clothes
Wool properties and uses
warm, naturally crease resistant, can shrink, jumpers, coats, suits, blankets, carpets
Polyester properties and uses
tough, strong, hard wearing, non-absorbent, fleece, backpacks, threads, sportswear
Lycra properties and uses
smooth, strong, elastic, remains shape and quick drying, sportswear, swimwearm surgical supports
Nylon properties and uses
strong, hard wearing, resists creasing, rope, webbing, parachutes, sportswear, umbrellas
