Surface anatomy Week 1 Flashcards
What are palpation points of the cranium
mastoid process
tempormandibular joint
external occipital protuberances
how do you find the mastoid process
behind the ear
how do you find the tempormandibular joint
this will be anterior to the ear.. this is the joint that help you open you jaw
how do you find the external occipital protuberances
this is the bump on the back of your head
c1 joint
allows us to say yes
c2 joint
allows us to say no
how to find the transverse process of c1
make a c grip and go medial to MP of Temporal bone and a little inferior then have them turn there head side to side you should feel the TP
what is difficult about palpating for the transverse process in the cervical region
because of the lordosis they are not in a straight line
how to find C7
to see if you are not C7 you would have them extend the neck to make sure your not on C6 and turn the head side to side to make sure you are not on T1 … C6 will disappear and T1 will not rotate
What will T1-3 look like
SP is at same level as TP of same vert.
what will t4-6 look like
sp is 1/2 way b/t TP of same vert. and and TP of inf. vert.
what will T7-9 look like
SP is at level of TP of infer. vert.
What does T10 look like
like T7-9
SP is at level of TP of infer. vert.
What does T11 look like
like T4-6
sp is 1/2 way b/t TP of same vert. and and TP of inf. vert.
What does T12 look like
like T1-3
SP is at same level as TP of same vert.
what is the last SP that will move with forward bend
the l5
how many vertebra are there
7 c 12 t 5 l 5 s 1 coccyx
what is at the same level as the C7
superior angle of the scap
what is at the same level as the T3
the root of the spine of the scap
what is at the same level as the T7
same as the inferior angle
what is at the same level as the L4/L5
iliac crest of the pelvis- acts like a shelf
what is at the same level as the s2
PSIS– which are like the back dimples
how to find the traps
upper - have them shruggle
middle- have them adduct shoulder
lower- depress scap
how to find the sub occipitals
extend and rotate the head- if tight they will feel hard
how to find the levator
elevate the scap
how to find the scm
have them
–extend the neck
–rotate the neck to one side
ASK hannah
how to find the rectus abdominis
straight line crunch
how to find the external obliques
they run inward ( hand in pocket ) cruch then rotate to a side
how to find the internal obliques
they run out war
** ask hannah
how to find the tranverse abdominis
horizontal running will need to feel the iliac crest will knee up and feet on table have them pull belly button inward to spine or have them cough
how does the obliques work as a pair to perform trunk rotation
they are a cause of low back pain and are the spinal column stabilizers
erector spinae
spinalis
longissimus
iliocostalis
** palpate the cervicis, thoracis, lumborum in relations to the muscles
how do you feel the lumbar multifidus
this is a pear shaped m. that sit a the base of the spinal column
–have the person lay on tummy and move the opposite arm or leg for you to feel it
how do you feel the quadratus lumborum
this is square shaped in the lumbar region and you will feel this by having them do hip hiking
