Common tinea in children?
Tinea Capitus
A single round patch of alopecia with scaling (microsporic).
ALSO - Multiple small patches , mimicking seborrheic dermatitis (trichosporic)
Scaling and alopecia of scalp, common cause?
Tinea
Rx of Tinea capitis?
Griseofulvin or Terbinafine orally
Not topical
Common syndromes and causes of Tinea causing ringworm? Rx?
Tinea barbae
Tinea faciei (face)
Tinea corporis (body)
Tinea cruris (groin)
Tinea pedis (feet)
Can use oral OR TOPICAL
M. canis (from cats and dogs).
M. gypseum (from soil)
What is this?
Tinea
Well demarcated border, can be inflammatory
Cause of onochomycosis?
Mostly T.rubrum, but also Candida and molds
Diagnosis, and what must you think of?
Proximal onychomycosis
HIV
Onychomycosis on hands most likely organism?
Candida - hands and children
Pus around nail - 2 differentials?
Candida albicans
Staph aureus
Round hyper or hypopigmented macules on chest and back. Related to sweat. ∆?
Pityriasis versicolor
Causes of pityriasis?
Malassezia furfur. M globosa and M sympodialis
What is this?
Pityriasis versicolor
Confirmation of diagnosis of superficial mycosis?
KOH stain and culture
Chronic tinea pedis with nail involvement Rx?
Itraconazole or terbinafine
