Superficial And Osseus Lower Limb Flashcards
What are the characteristics of the great saphenous vein?
Formed by medial end of foot’s dorsal venous arch and dorsal vein of the great toe
Ascends anterior to the medial malleolus, posteromedial knee and anterior thigh
Saphenous opening to the femoral vein
What are the characteristics of the small saphenous vein?
Formed by lateral end of foot’s dorsal venous arch and dorsal vein of little toe
Ascends posterior to the lateral malleolus
Lateral to Achilles
Between heads of gastrocnemius
Empties to the popliteal vein
What are the superficial lymphatics?
Majority of lymph drains along lymphatics that follow superficial veins to superficial nodes
Horizontal group right below inguinal ligament
Vertical group along the opening of the great saphenous vein
What are the characteristics of the hip bone?
Formed by 3 bones : Ileum-top Ischium-posterior Pubis-anterior Bones fused later in life and formed acetabulum
What are the characteristics of the acetabulum?
Insertion site of femur
Possess an articular (lunate) surface that is incomplete
Incomplete side possess the acetabular notch and under it the acetabular fossa
The labrum sits on the bone except on the acetabular notch where it is connected to the transverse ligament
What are the characteristics of the femur?
Biggest bone of the body
Possess many points of attachment for muscles
Fovea for ligament of head
Anterior view:
Greater trochanter, lesser trochanter, intertrochanteric line
Posterior view:
Intertrochanteric crest
Spiral line more medial
Pectineal line central
Gluteal tuberosity more lateral
Linea aspera with lateral lip (continuous with gluteal tuberosity),and medial lip
Linea aspera end with lateral and medial supracondylar lines
What are the characteristics of the patella?
Sesamoid bone
Articulated with femur on the patellar surface
Apex inferior
Base superior
