-reddness, 3-5 hours ater
-usually ressolved in 72 hours
Suntan
-melancytes in skin to generate and distribute melatonin
-immediatte tanning lasts 3-4 days
-delayed tanning
What is delayed tanning?
protective mechanism for skin to to diffuse and absorb addition radiation. Lasts 10-30 days
What is photoaging?
-wrinkling and yellowing of skin, less elastic, dry and thickened, spider vessels, small hemorrhages under the skin, skin growth
Non drug sun exposure methods
-sun avoidance
-protective clothing
-wide brim hat
-sunglasses(protect eyes from cataract formation)
Sunscreen dosing
-face/neck: 1/2 tsp(nickle size)
-arms/shoulders:1/2 tsp to each side of body
-torso:1/2 tsp front and back
-legs: 1 tsp on each side
How often apply sunscreen
-15 min before going outside
-every 2 hours after
-after each episode of swimming, towel drying, or excessive sweating
-water resistant: after 40-80 min of swimming
Children and sunscreen
-use on 6 months and older
-keep little ones out of sun
-use physical product on younger children
