Substitution tests Flashcards
Substitution test purpose
Identify factor deficiency, detect lupus anticoagulant, and specific factor inhibitors
Fresh plasma in substitution test
Contains all coagulation factors except III and IV
Aged plasma in substitution test
Contains all factors except V and VIII
Aged serum in substitution test
Contains factors I, V, VIII, XIII, II
Adsorbed plasma in substitution test
Contains all factors except Vitamin K dependent (II, VII, IX, X)
Prolonged PT and aPTT
Missing coagulation factors in common pathway (I, II, V, X)
Normal PT, prolonged aPTT
Missing intrinsic factors (VIII, IX, XI, XII)
Prolonged PT, normal aPTT
Missing extrinsic factor (Factor VII)
Stypven time (Russel’s Viper Venom Time) purpose
Detect deficiencies in fibrinogen, prothrombin, factors V and X
Stypven time difference from PT
Factor VII deficiencies are not detected
Coagulant used in Stypven time test
Russel’s viper venom from Vipera russeli
