Stroke lesions Flashcards
Contralateral paralysis of upper limb &/or contralateral loss of sensation of upper limb & face &/or either aphasia or hemineglect
MCA
damage = motor &/ sensory cortex &/or either temporal - Wernicke’s - or frontal - Broca’s - lobes
Contralateral paralysis of lower limb
&/or
loss of sensation of lower limb
ACA
damage = motor &/or sensory cortex
Contralateral hemiparesis/hemiplegia
Lateral striate artery
damage = striatum, internal capsule
- Contralateral hemiparesis - lower limbs
- ↓contralateral proprioception
- Ipsilateral hypoglossal dysfunction (tongue deviates ipsilaterally)
Medial Medullary Syndrome
- Ant. Spinal Artery (infarct of paramedian branches of ASA & Vertebral arteries)
1. Lateral corticospinal tract
2. Medial lemniscus
3. Caudal medulla – hypoglossal nerve
- Ant. Spinal Artery (infarct of paramedian branches of ASA & Vertebral arteries)
Vomiting, vertigo, nystagmus.
- ipsilateral Horner’s Syndrome
- Ataxia, dysmetria
- ↓pain & temp sensation to limbs/face
- dysphagia, hoarseness
- ↓ gag reflex
Lateral Medullary Syndrome
- PICA
(Nucleus ambiguous Sx specific)
Vomiting, vertigo, nystagmus.
- ipsilateral Horner’s Syndrome
- Ataxia, dysmetria
- ↓pain & temp sensation to face
- Paralysis of face
- ↓ lacrimation, salivation, taste from anterior 2/3 of tongue
- ↓ ipsilateral hearing
Lateral Pontine Syndrome
- AICA
(Facial nucleus Sx specific)
Contralateral hemianopia w/ macular sparing
PCA
CN III palsy
