Cancer & Random_Pharm Flashcards
Trastuzamab - MOA?
Monoclonal antibody for HER2/neu, a protein involved in cell proliferation that is over expressed in many breast cancers (& ass’d w/ worse prognosis)
______ is the main hormone responsible for the growth & development of malignant breast tumors.
Estrogen
Anastrozole - MOA?
Aromatase inhibitor, suppressing the conversion of androgens into estrogen
(aromatase is highly expressed in ovarian tissue & also in small amounts in subcutaneous fat, normal breast tissue, & cancerous breast tissue)
Tamoxifen - MOA?
Breast tissue = Estrogen receptor antagonist
– Tx for breast cancer
Endometrium = Estrogen receptor agonist
– may cause endometrial cancer
Cardiovascular tissue = Agonist & pro coagulation effects
– may cause DVT &/or thromboembolism
Ketoconazole - MOA?
Weak anti-androgen that decreases synthesis of steroid hormones in gonads & adrenals
Flutamide - MOA?
Non-steroid anti-androgen that competes w/ Testosterone & DHT for testosterone receptors
Flutamide - Clinical uses?
Tx of prostate cancer in combination w/ GnRH agonists
Allopurinol - MOA?
Xanthine oxidase inhibitor used to reduce uric acid production during the breakdown of tumor cells
