Stress, Cardiovascular disease and other disorders Flashcards
1
Q
How can stress affect people? esp people with CVD
A
- social and psychological circumstances (social determinants of health) can cause long term stress
- includes: anxiety, isolation, low selt-esteem, lack of control over home and work life
- psychological factors affect physical health
- stress can predispose someone to CVD
2
Q
CVD and RA
areas of dysfucntion, activity limitations participation limitations
A
- suspected areas of dysfunction: joints
- activity limitiations: exercise can be painful which can cause CVD
- participation restrictions: may cause long term disability which can increase stress/CVD
joints degenerate
3
Q
meds to consider and interventions of patients with RA/CVD
A
- meds to consider: pain meds, cardiac meds
- interventions: manage jt pain, biking, aquatics, less pressure through joint but gets them active
4
Q
CVD and MS
A
- ability to exercise decreases over time
- energy conservation: may need to workout in the morning
- more likely to get CVD due to not moving as well
5
Q
Meds to consider with MS/CVD
A
- baclofen, amentidine, fluoxetine, cardiac med
- antispasticity = can cause muscle weakness
6
Q
DM and CVD: meds to consider
A
- cardiac meds
- antihyperglycemias
- insulin
7
Q
autonomic neuropathy and its affect with CVD
A
- more likely to have orthostatic hypotension
- assoicated with increased risk of mortality
- increased risk of CV event
- silent angina/MI
- subclinical left ventrical dysfunction: left ventricle does not respond to exercise
- may see impaired heart rate recover after exercise
8
Q
Other conditions that may exacerabate CVD
A
- spinal cord injury
- osteoporosis
- PD (breathing dsyfunction)
- post-polio syndrome
- muscular dystrophy
- myasthenia gravis
- Sarcoidosis
- HIV
- anemia
- ALS
- sickle cell disease
- dermatomyositis
