hypothalamus releases CRH, triggering the pituitary gland
releases ACTH into the blood stream travelling rapidly around the body
when it reaches the adrenal glands they release cortisol, suppressing everything not needed for immediate survival
cortisol travels back to the brain , where brain responds on automatic
initial stress response
should last around 15 minutes
