stats tests Flashcards
1
Q
independent measures
A
- Participants only take part in one condition of the experiment (requiring two separate
groups).
2
Q
3 types of data
A
- Nominal: Categorical data, for example, brown eyes, green eyes, blue eyes.
- Ordinal: Ordered categories and the distances between the categories is not known e.g., a Likert
scale where one person’s ‘1’ could be different to another person’s ‘1’. - Interval/Ratio: Scale data, for example test scores, weight, height, temperature. There are set intervals between each point.
3
Q
repeated measures
A
- One group of participants take part in both conditions of the experiment.
4
Q
matched pairs
A
- Participants are matched in each condition for characteristics that may have an effect on
their performance, e.g., IQ, age, previous test scores.
5
Q
Man Whitney U criteria
A
- Data that is at least ordinal.
- Looking for a difference.
- Independent measures.
6
Q
wilcoxon criteria
A
- When we have at least ordinal data.
- Looking for a difference between groups.
- A repeated measures design.
7
Q
spearman criteria
A
- Data is at least ordinal.
- When you are looking for a relationship.
- Data provides a correlation coefficient.
8
Q
chi^2 criteria
A
- When there is nominal level data.
- When you are looking for a difference.
- When you have independent measures.
