social learning theory Flashcards
what is social learning theory
Social learning theory holds that people learn through observation.
* Behaviour occurs due to: ARRM (attention, retention, reproduction, motivation)
* Social learning is about behaviour being modelled and then repeated.
ARRM
-attention to role model (similarity status significance), behaviour and consequence
-retain info on behaviours shown and consequence
-reproduce behaviour shown
-due to intrinsic (how u want to feel) or extrinsic ( external factors)motivation, want same reward(vicarious reinforcement)
vicarious reinforcement
occurs when role models are seen to be gaining the reward
desired by the young person. (E.g. in Bandura’s 1965 when role models were praised for hitting the Bobo doll)
