what is social learning theory

A

Social learning theory holds that people learn through observation.
* Behaviour occurs due to: ARRM (attention, retention, reproduction, motivation)
* Social learning is about behaviour being modelled and then repeated.

A

-attention to role model (similarity status significance), behaviour and consequence
-retain info on behaviours shown and consequence
-reproduce behaviour shown
-due to intrinsic (how u want to feel) or extrinsic ( external factors)motivation, want same reward(vicarious reinforcement)

vicarious reinforcement

A

occurs when role models are seen to be gaining the reward
desired by the young person. (E.g. in Bandura’s 1965 when role models were praised for hitting the Bobo doll)
