EEA stapler

- Used during low anterior colon resection
- Once removed from rectum, must be checked for the doughnut shaped ring of tissue, cut from stapled ends
GIA stapler

- has a knife that runs between two double rows of staples
- used across a length of bowel between sick and healthy segments, rows of staples on both sides
