- Touching blood
- Secretions and Excretions
- Bodily Fluids
- Contaminated Items
- Mucous Membranes
- Non-intact skin
When should a mask, goggles or face shield be utilized?
In any activity with potential to:
- Generate splashes
- Sprays of blood or bodily fluids
- Secretions (especially during suctioning)
- Pulsatile Lavage
What bodily excretion are the use of gloves not necessary?
Sweat
When to perform Hand Hygiene?
After touching:
- Blood
- Excretions
- Secretions
- Bodily fluids
- Contaminated items
(So basically any reason why you would want to wear gloves)
What to do immediately after glove removal?
Perform hand hygiene
What are Contact Precautions?
Prevent transmission of infectious agents spread by direct or indirect contact with the patient and environment
What are droplet precautions?
Prevent transmission of pathogen spread through mucous membranes or close respiratory contact with respiratory secretions?
What are Airborne Precautions?
Prevent transmission of infectious agents that remain infectious over long distances when suspended in the air.
What clinical syndromes are contact precautions necessary?
- MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus)
- VRE, VRSA/VIA
- Lice, Scabies
- Impetigo

- Private Room or cohort with same infection
- Dedicated Equipment

- Gown, Gloves

- Mumps (rubella)
