Stages And Planes Flashcards
Stage 1
From beginning of induction to the loss of consciousness (no amnesia/analgesia to total amnesia/analgesia)
Stage 2
From LOC to onset of automatic rhythmicity of VS. responses are exaggerated and violent, eyelids deviated, dangerous stage, vomiting
Stage 3 (Surgical Plane)
From end of II to cessation of respiration
Plane 1: full respiration, loss of lid reflex, loss of vomiting reflex
Plane 2: resp. Regular but diminished, eyes fixed and slight diverged
Plane 3: diaphragmatic respiration with intercostal paralysis, RR increased and TV decreased, pupillary dilation, hypotension and tachy
Plane 4: resp. Shallow, complete muscle relaxation, pupil dilation, BP falling with accelerated pulse
Stage 4 (medullary paralysis)
Cessation of respiration to death
All reflexes absent
Flaccid paralysis
Marked hypotension with weak, irregular pulse
General Anesthesia
Stable administration of drugs
Arousal not possible
Analgesia, akinesia
Emergence Phase 1
Cessation of anesthetic drugs
Reversal of muscle relaxants
Apnea to regular breathing
Emergence phase 2
Increase HR/BP Return of autonomic response Respond to pain Swallow/gagging Muscle tone Defensive posturing Extubation possible
Emergence Phase 3
Eye opening
Respond to oral commands
Extubation possible
