Receptors Flashcards
B1 receptor
NE legates—> cardiac stimulation (increased HR/BP/Contractility)
Renin release
Lipolysis
B2 receptor
Epi ligates—> bronchodilation, vasodilation, glycogenolysis
Beta Blockade
B1: bradycardia, renin suppression, reduced FA synthesis
B2: bronchospams, vasoconstriction, reduced energy/hypoglycemia
**cardioselective attempts to only block B1 so as not to cause B2 blocking effects (not very effective)
**Partial agonists try to do the same, not very effective either
**Membrane stabilizing: antiarrhythmic? Antiplatelet?
Should BB be stopped before surgery
NO!!! Can cause rebound HTN d/t upregulation of B receptors
Should BB be started on the day of surgery?
NO! Doesn’t work, needs to be started weeks ahead of time.
Pts do worse!
