does it work ? :
- poor record of reoffending - recidivsm
- 46% reconvict within a year
Zero Tolerance
- supports right realism and is the idea that all crime no matter how minor or major should be punished the same
does it work ? :
- in nyc since 1993 major crime fell by 39% and murder by 49% - similar in UK
- however crime has fallen without zero tolerance policing and long term effects unknown
- more effective in areas that are populated with high policing levels
Restorative Justice
- voluntary process which victim and offender work with trained facilitator to talk about crime and how to repair harm
does it work ? :
- government provided funding to police and crime commissioners to make process available to victims of crime
- allows victims to have voice and make offenders accountable for their actions
- can reduce ptsd in victim and motivate offenders to turn away from crime
- reduce chance of reoffending by 14%
