twisted nose, sharp cheekbones, sloped foreheads and larger jaws and ears - believed the born criminal had less sensitivity to pain, more acute senses of sight and smell, lack of moral senses (no remorse)

- studied about 400 dead criminals and 4000 live ones
- found that 40% of these criminals could be accounted for by their atavistic features
- believed in idea of primitive subhumans and therefore due to being backwards in evolution they lacked intelligence to control their behavior.

- it correctly flagged 6% of innocent men and 83% of criminal men based on facial features

- endomorph - fat and soft, more sociable and relaxed
- ectomorphs - thin and fragile, introverted and restrained
- mesomorphs - muscular, aggressive and adventurous
