Specific Immune Response: B-Lymphocytes Flashcards
What are the steps of immune response?
1) phagocytosis
2) t-cells activated
3) b-cells activated
What are b-cells activated by?
interleukins released by activated t-helper cells
What does each b-cell have?
its own antibody on its surface
What do b-cells with a complimentary antibody to the pathogen’s antigen form?
an antigen-antibody complex
What kind of cloning do b-cells go through?
clonal selection and clonal expansion
only the B-cells that form an antigen-antibody complex will divide to make many clones of itself called plasma cells + memory cells
What are plasma cells?
clones of the clonally selected b-cell
they make many copies of antibodies and secrete them into the blood stream
What are memory cells?
plasma cell that is kept after infection is over
