Special Test of the Pelvis Flashcards
What are all the special test of the Pelvis?
Ely’s, Fabers, Gaenslen’s, Gillet’s, Hip adductor length, Hip flexor AR, Ober’s, Piriformis length, SI gapping / Squish, Supine to sit, Trendelenburg’s.
What does Ely’s Assess for?
A method of assessing for Rec Fem mm shortness or contracture.
How is Ely’s Performed?
Client prone,
Flex the affected knee, attempting to bring the heel to the glute max, ensuring the leg does not abduct while doing this.
Observe the pelvis.
What is a positive result for Ely’s?
If the pelvis flexes while attempting to bring the knee to the Glute max.
Then the client is positive for Rec fem mm shortness / Contracture.
What does Fabers Assess for?
Used to assess for Hip / Psoas mm.
Along with the SI joint.
What is a positive result from a Fabers Test?
For Hip flexor: If the affected knee remains above the unaffected, the test is positive for Hip related pathologies or Hip flexor involvement.
For SI joint: Pain reported local to the SI joint, is positive for SI joint dysfunction.
How is Fabers performed?
Client supine with legs extended,
Place clients foot of the affected side on the knee of the unaffected leg.
What is Gaenslen’s Test used to assess for?
Used to assess for Hip or SI dysfunction.
How is Gaenslen’s test performed?
Client side-lying on the unaffected side,
Instruct client to flex the unaffected hip and knee to the chest, holding them there.
Stand behind the client and stabilize the pelvis with one hand.
With the other hand hyperextend the client’s affected leg at the Hip.
What is a positive result for Gaenslen’s test?
The test would be positive for SI joint / Hp dysfunction if the client reports pain in these areas.
What does Gillet’s Test assess for?
Used to assess for the Mobility of the SI joint.
How is Gillet’s Test performed?
Client standing with hands on the wall.
With one thumb palpate the PSIS on the affected side.
With the other thumb mark the S2 spinous process.
Instruct client to stand on the unaffected leg and flex the hip and knee on the affected side.
At the same time palpate the for the motion of the PSIS.
What is a positive result for a Gillet’s Test?
If the PSIS on the affected side moves superiorly, the test is positive for SI joint hypermobility.
Normal motion for the PSIS in hip flexion is inferiorly.
What is SI gapping used to assess for?
A stress test used to assess the Anterior ligaments of the SI joint.
What is a positive result for SI gapping test?
If pain the client reports, is unilateral glute or leg pain.
