Median, Radial and Ulnar Nn Paralysis Flashcards
What are the 3 categories NN injuries are categorized into?
They will be categorized into:
Neuropraxia, Axonotmesis, Neurotmesis.
What is “Neuropraxia”?
A contusion of a Nn which does not result in degeneration.
The Nn recovers function without treatment in a few days to a few weeks.
What is “Axonotmesis”?
An injury in which the Nn fibers distal to the injury site degeneration but the internal structures of the Nn remain intact.
No surgical treatment is required.
Recovery generally occurs within 6 months.
What is “Neurtmesis”?
A complete laceration of the Nn and surrounding fibrous tissues, Surgical treatment is required.
What Nn roots make up the Radial Nn?
Posterior cord fibers from C5, 6, 7, 8.
What are the Motor innervations come from the Radial Nn?
…
What can be done when testing clients with Nn injuries to the Radial Nn?
Motor:
Pinch Grip test, for anterior interosseous branch of median Nn.
Sensory:
Distal Radial aspect of index finger.
What can be done when testing a client with Nn injuries to the Median Nn?
