Q

Six quality levels of INDO

A
  1. Vino d’Espagna/Vino de Mesa (VdM) - No vintage or variety on label. Tabel wine
  2. Vino de la Tierra - Indicacion Geografica Protegida (IGP) -min of 60% of the stated region with a specific local character
  3. Vino de Calidad con Indicacion Geografica (VCIG) - those how attempt to upgrade to DOP status, but they must wait for min of 5 years
  4. Denominacion de Origen Protegida (DOP) - equivalent to the French AOP system. Must wait for e min of 10 years to upgrade to DOCa.
  5. Denominacion de Origen Calificada (DOCa), Called Denominacion de Origen Qualificada (DOQ) in Catalan - Highest qualification. Rioja in 1991 and Priorat is the second. Must be bottled in the bodega of origin.
  6. Vinos de Pagos - Introduced in 2003, estates wines of high quality. Must be within an existing DO or DOCa
