Six quality levels of INDO
- Vino d’Espagna/Vino de Mesa (VdM) - No vintage or variety on label. Tabel wine
- Vino de la Tierra - Indicacion Geografica Protegida (IGP) -min of 60% of the stated region with a specific local character
- Vino de Calidad con Indicacion Geografica (VCIG) - those how attempt to upgrade to DOP status, but they must wait for min of 5 years
- Denominacion de Origen Protegida (DOP) - equivalent to the French AOP system. Must wait for e min of 10 years to upgrade to DOCa.
- Denominacion de Origen Calificada (DOCa), Called Denominacion de Origen Qualificada (DOQ) in Catalan - Highest qualification. Rioja in 1991 and Priorat is the second. Must be bottled in the bodega of origin.
- Vinos de Pagos - Introduced in 2003, estates wines of high quality. Must be within an existing DO or DOCa

White/Rosado: 12 months, 6 months in cask 225L
Reserva
Red: 3 years, 1 year in cask 225L
White/Rosado: 2 years, 6 months in cask 225L
Gran Reserva
Red: 5 years, 18 months in cask 225L
White/Rosado: 4 years, 6 months in cask 225L
INDO
Instituto de Denominaciones de Origen, controlled by administrative growers’ committees or consejos regulados
Vino de Pago Calificado
This category exists to cover future VPs that may arise inside DOCa zones.
