Context
On 6th August 1945, Truman decided to drop two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan. These killed an estimated 120,000 civilians. This attack made Japan surrender and ended the 2nd world war.

Consequences - power
The USA didn’t consult USSR, creating tension and a lack of trust. Stalin was threatened. Increased power of USA.
Consequence - land
Stalin created a ‘buffer zone’ between Russia and Germany by taking control of more land in Eastern Europe (Satellite states)
Consequence - technology
The Soviets hoped to show USA they could build their own Nuclear bombs and a successful test was carried out in August 1929.
Consequence - Military and technology
ARMS RACE - There was now a competition between the countries to develop more nuclear bombs.
