When will a primary search be done?
Anytime there is fire or heavy smoke in a building
Completion of primary search will be communicated to the IC via radio
What is a secondary search?
Thorough, detailed search of the fire area, floor or entire building, done after the fire is knocked down or controlled
Who should perform the secondary search?
Crews other than those that performed the primary search
When is a secondary search to be done?
Whenever a primary search has been done?

What are the safety priorities to be followed, regardless of search type?
Have communications with IC, Division/Group supervisor
Assess building construction features which will affect search operations
Maintain situational awareness of primary and secondary entry points

What is the order in which structures should be searched?
Room involved in fire (the most severely threatened)
Rooms immediately next to fire area
The floor above the fire
The top floor and proceed downward
