SOG FIRE-010 Fireground Strategy and Control Flashcards
What type of fire attack is to be taken whenever possible?
Aggressive, well placed and adequate interior fire attack
What is the determining factor for which fireground strategy will be based upon
RISK vs GAIN analysis conducted by the IC during their ongoing size-up
What factors must be considered when making a risk analysis to determine OFFENSIVE vs DEFENSIVE strategies?
Fire involvement with location within the building
Structural conditions and building construction
Entry capability and/or degree of difficulty required to gain entry
Ventilation or the degree of difficulty required to ventilate
Rescue profile of occupants and the degree of entrapment
Resources on scene and delay of responding resources
What are the components of the basic offensive plan?
Take Command
Identify critical fireground factors
Establish RIT
First line-fast aggressive
interior attack
Provide support activities (ie.ventilation, forcible entry)
Conduct primary search and secondary search reported by geographic location as it relates to the fireground
Second line-(backup first line/cover opposite side, ensure first line is in place)
Pump water
Quickly evaluate success and react
What are components of the Basic defensive Planm?
Take Command
Evaluate fire spread/write-off lost property
Identify critical fireground factors including collapse zones
Prioritize fire streams. Provide big, well-placed streams
Pump water
Quick determination on additional resources
Surround and drown
What is the purpose of an offensive strategy?
-interior attack and related support directed toward quickly conducting a search for victims and bringing the fire under control
What is the purpose of a defensive strategy?
exterior attack directed to, first reduce fire extension and then bring the fire under control
What are the fireground priorities
Life Safety
Incident Stabilization
Property Conservation
How are the tactical priorities secured?
Locate
Confine
Extingush
What must be done when the exact location of fire is determined?
it must be conveyed to the other units operating on the scene.
THE MOST DIRECT ROUTE TO THE FIRE AREA MUST BE RELAYED TO THE MEMBERS STRETCHING THE INITIAL HOSELINE
How do you confine the fire?
Place a hoseline between the fire and majority of building occupants
What may play a vital role in confining the fire while hoselines are being stretched?
Closing doors or windows
What is final extinguishment?
Final extinguishment means that any fire uncovered by “opening up” and overhauling has been extinguished
