Jean Baptiste Colbert

A

In 1663 the King John Baptiste Colbert in charge of planning wanted the Colonies to be part of the Mercantile system. The colonist in New France would receive goods made in France. In return New France would send home country fish timber and of course furs. Colbert would not allowed the traders to build trading posts in the interior of North America he believed this would lead to conflict with the first Nations instead the French relied on the extensive economic network of wendat furs from many first nations to Montreal

The Haudenosaunee had killed many more. the whole Wendat society fell apart they could no longer bring furs to Montreal the less powerful odawa tried to do this their enemies the Haudenosaunee made this dangerous.
