What did the aboriginal people believe?
- People are not depend from nature or from the non living world. Everything on earth is connected
- The wisdom and experience of elders is highly valued. Elders deserve the respect of all members of the community
- A spiritual world exists. It plays a very important role in all that happens on earth
- People must live in harmony with each other and balance with nature
Who are the First Nations people?
They are the indigenous peoples to North America
What do each First Nations group have unique beliefs about?
On how the earth was created and how people came to exist
What are traditional teachings?
Be leads passed down from generation to generation
What is one way elder teach morals and values?
By stories
What did the book mean by saying the Europeans were very ethnocentric?
They judged other global cultures and ideas according to European standards and and values
Where did the Mi’kmaq live?
In eastern Canada the woodlands of Nova Scotia, pei, and New Brunswick

They were hunters, fishers , and gatherers

Small villages of extended families

The clan system helped the co operate , live together in harmony, and share resources

For their ability their ability to reach an agreement among people
What was the role of women in Mi’kmaq communities?
They were responsible for families, they raised the children, took care of the homes, hunted small game, prepared food, and made clothing
Who are the Haudenosaunee?
They are are a group that contains six first nations: Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, and Tuscarora

Algonquin
What are some of the Haudenosaunee values and beliefs?
collective thinking and considering future generations
decision making by consensus and considering all points of veiws
sharing labour and the benefits of that labour
duty to family, clan, nation and the Iroquois confederacy
Equality, everyone is an equal and full partner in society
What did the Haudenosaunee do for a living?
they hunted, fished, gathered nuts, roots and berries. and they also farmed
What were the three sisters all about?
They were corn, beans, and squash. They were always planted together to help each other grow.
