How did the gold mining in British Columbia affect the First Nations in the area?
When they mined along the rivers it scared away the fish, for some fish was their lively hood
What was the impact of the gold rush?
Many people stayed to farm and set up businesses and many road were built
Tell me about the First Nations in British Columbia
They had a highly developed trading network, but the newcomers just didn’t understand their way of life, they then were forced to move onto reserves in exchange for protected rights
What happened with the road crew and the Tsilhqot’in and the road crew?
They looted from their graves, raiding villages and scaring off animals
What did Britain pay for the colonies?
They paid for defense and government
Why did they unite British Columbia and Vancouver island?
Because it was too much money to run 2 colonies
Why did British Columbia become a province?
They were deeply in debt and Everton around them were changing
