13th Amendment

14th Amendment
This amendment made all people born in the U.S. citizens, regardless of previous condition of slavery. It also guaranteed equal protection under the law and prohibited States from denying a citizen his rights without due process of law
15th Amendment
This Amendment granted African-Americans the right to vote
What were Jim Crow Laws?
Laws passed once Reconstruction ended that enforced segregation in public facilities
What were Black Codes?
Laws passed in the beginning of Reconstruction that attempted to tie African-Americans to the land, and limit their rights
What was the Civil Rights Act of 1866?
Granted citizenship to African Americans and granted the federal government the power to intervene in state affairs to protect blacks’ civil rights
What was the Freedmen’s Bureau?
This government agency was established to help African-Americans and poor whites find jobs, get food, medical care, and provide schooling
