Who is Khadija? Why is she special to the rise of Islam?
Khadija was important because she Muhammads first wife and she was his first follower, telling him he was not crazy about being the prophet of gaberial the angle.
Who is Muhammad? Why is he special to the rise of Islam?
Muhammad was the creator of Islam and he created a small group of followers in Mecca known as Muslims.
Why is Mecca important?
Mecca was the birthplace of Muhammadhe also met the Angle Gabireal there.
What is Kabah?
Kabah is where Muslims pilgrim to during Hajj. They walk around the Kabah seven times.
What was the reason for boycotts?
The powerful clans of Makah boycotted the Muslims by pressuring them to give up Islam.
What were the reasons for rejection and persecution of early Muslims?
An economic reason was because it was a place to worship many gods. When Muhammad’s group came to being, they worshiped one god which made less people go there and there would be less trade. Also the Mecans did not want to give their wealth.
What are the 5 pillars of Islam? What do they mean?
Hajj- The pillgramage to visit Mecca and other nearby sites and they walk around Kabah seven times.
Shahadah- The declaration of belief and faith in Islam also in becoming a Muslim.
Salat-A daily prayer that happens 5 times a day towards Mecca.
Zakat- When the wealthy should give some of their money to the unfortunate and to the orphanages and public fountains. The Muslims beleive they should be protected from greed.
Siyam-Ramadan is on the 9th month of the Islamic calendar and it helps Muslims learn control and understanding what others are going though.
What is the difference between the lesser and greater jihad?
The greater jihad isthe fight within yourself.
The lesser jihad the fight against people who are anti-Islam.
What is the Qur’an?
Was thought to be the word of god.
How did Islam spread? In what directions?
By military conquest, trade, pilgrimage, and missionaries. It spread towards east to asia and west and northwest to europe and africa.
What is the difference between Sunni ND Shia Muslims?
The Sunni thought all Caliphs were ok while Shia thought that the Caliphs must come from prophet of direct decendents. All other leadership in not allowed.
