Cell Structure and Function Flashcards
Cell Membrane
Protective Structure of the cell which controls what enters and exits it.
DNA
A substance that makes up instructions for building the cells components and for carrying out life processes.
Ribosomes
Makes the Proteins by following the instructions by the DNA
Cytoplasm
Fills the inside of the cell
Nuclei
A large organelle that contains a cells DNA it has it’s own membrane that regulates what enters and exits.
Mitochondria
Converts energy into nutrients into usable energy.
E.R.
Transports cells from one part of a cell to another.
Golgi Apparatus
Receives small proteins from the E.R. and assembles them into larger, more complex proteins then stores or packages them for shipping.
Vacuoles
Organelles that break down waste.
Lysosome
Organelles that store materials.
Chloroplasts
An organelle that uses the suns energy to make sugar though the process of photosynthesis. (the sugar is the cells food.)
Central Vacuole
Stores liquids and gets rid of waste.
Cell Wall
Provides shape, protection, and support.
