Diseases- drinking bad water and illnesses passed by mosquitos
Lack of laborers- Gentlemen didn’t want to work
Weather- bad winters killed most of their population

Food Shortages- because of bad land they couldn’t plant food

The lack of workers, due to all the gentlemen at the settlement.
Why would a person in England volunteer to be an indentured servant?
In a pursuit of a happier life because along with a free trip to America, once they were done working their term they were given land, money, and animals (new opportunities)

No, as the population of Jamestown grew and more towns were formed it was easier for the indentured servants to escape. Because they got to go free after their term was served they kept on needing more workers. As the economy in England increased less people volunteered to be indentured servants, but with Africans they don’t have a choice to be a slave

Jamestown was the first permanent successful English colony in America and was the first colony of the 13 colonies to become apart of the US
