Interaction between a person’s environment, behaviour, and cognitions; people strive towards a goal; reflect on their own experience and those of othersq
What is self-efficacy?
Perception of one’s ability to perform a specific task successfully
What is self-efficacy influenced by?
Performance accomplishments: experience in sticking to a routine, enabling development of realistic goals and providing feeddback; vicarious experiences; verbal persuasion; emotional and physiological states, especially during behaviour
How is self-efficacy and behaviour related?
Have a reciprocal nature
What is the theory of planned behaviour?
Attitude + subjective norms + perceived behavioural control –> intention. Intention + perceived behavioural control –> behaviour
What types of attitudes are important for the theory of planned behaviour?
Beliefs regarding behaviour; evaluation of outcomes
What are the subjective norms?
Beliefs that important others have, and motivation to comply with these
What is perceived behavioural control?
Control variables; power over control factors
What factor has the strongest effect for the theory of planned behaviour?
Perceived behavioural control, as have to override desire to stop. Self-efficacy comes into play to determine will.
What factor has the weakest effect for the theory of planned behaviour?
Subjective norms, as just because it is important to others, isn’t necessarily important to person
