Soc9: Long term effects of exercise Flashcards
Adaptation
Your body’s response to training and how your body changes to cope with new activity
Aerobic
Working at a moderate intensity level with oxygen
Anaerobic
Working at a high intensity level without oxygen
Alveoli
Tiny sacs within our lungs that allow oxygen and carbon dioxide to move between the lungs and bloodstream
Diaphragm
The primary muscle used in the process of inspiration or inhalation
Cardiac output
The amount of blood ejected from your heart in one minute (CO) = (SV) x (HR)
Resting stroke volume
The amount of blood pumped per beat
Recovery rate
The speed at which your heart returns to RHR after you exercise
Muscle Hypertrophy
When their are micro-tears in muscle fibres, due to exercise. The body responds by repairing the muscles and making them bigger. Muscle hypertrophy is the growth of your muscles
Coronary Heart disease
When your coronary arteries are blocked by a build-up of fatty deposits containing cholesterol, which stops/decreases the blood supply to the heart
