Soc17- The Strcuture Of The Respiratory System Flashcards
What percentage of the air you breath is os oxygen and carbon dioxide?
20% oxygen and 0.4% CO2
The percent of oxygen and carbon dioxide you breath out?
16% oxygen and 4% carbon dioxide
How many times do you i hale per minute?
21 times (talking half a litre per breath). This increases when you exercise.
What are viral capacity and tidal volume?
Are measures that feature in sports training and evaluation
Who and why do they use vital capacity and tidal volume?
Sports coaches and physiotherapists can use them to estimate the efficiency of a sportspersons respiratory system.
Vital capacity
Is the greatest amount of air that can be pass into and out of the lungs by the most forceful inspiration and expiration.
Tidal volume
The amount of air expired and inspired with each normal breath at rest or during exercise
What happens when you exercise to your tidal volume?
Tidal volume increases because the amount of oxygen needed increases
Respiration
The movement of air from outside the body into the cells within tissues
Diaphragm
The primary muscle used in the process of inspiration, or inhalation. A dome-shaped sheet of muscle that separate the chest from the rest of the body cavity.
Trachea
The tube that takes air into the chest, also known as the windpipe.
Bronchus (pl. bronchi)
Tube along which air passes from the trachea into the lungs
Bronnchiles
Smaller branches coming off the bronchi
Alveoli
Tiny sacs at the end of the bronchioles, where gas exchange takes place.
Haemoglobin
A type of protein found in every red blood cell.
