What is a basic skill?
Generic skills that do not include complicated movements
What is a complex skill?
They include complicated movements that require high levels of co-ordination and control. They are usually sport-specific
What is an example of a basic skill?
Running
What is an example of a complex skill?
A serve in tennis
What is low organisation?
Skills that can be separated into different parts
What is high organisation?
Skills where the actions are seauential and are very hard to separate
What is an example of low organisation?
Triple jump
What is an example of high organisation?
Cycling
What is massed practice?
Practice that is done until it is learnt without any breaks
What is distributed practice?
Practice that is done in parts and with breaks in between
Which people would most likely do massed practice?
Fit athletes
What is guidamce?
Information to aid the learning of a skill;can be given visually, verbally, manually or mechanically
What are the 4 ways of guidance?
Visual, variable, manual and mechanical
What are the disadvantages of visual learning?
Learners will not be able to ask questions to clarify their understanding if in the form of a video
What are the disadvantages of verbal learning?
Can be difficult for beginners to understand verbal guidance, especially if it is to do with a difficult or complicated skill
