SOC 20 Flashcards
What is a lever?
A lever is a structure that has four components.
What is the fulcrum in a lever?
The fulcrum (or pivot) is the point around which the lever rotates.
What is the load in a lever system?
The load is the force that is applied by the lever system.
What is the effort in a lever system?
The effort is a force that is applied by the user of the lever system.
What is the lever arm?
The lever arm is a rigid bar such as a bone.
What shape does the fulcrum represetn?
Triangle
What shape does the load represent?
Square

Whats in the middle for the third class lever?
Effort
Examples of First class levers
Tricep dip,nodding your head
Examples of second class levers
Claf raises,using a wheelbarrow
Examples of third class levers
Bicep curl,using a spade
What is mechanical advantage?
A large load can be lifted with a relatively
small amount of effort.
How does mechanical advantage work?
This happens when the output of the lever is greater than the input - the load is greater than the effort, so you are getting more out than you are putting in.
What levers work at mechanical advantage?
First and second
What is mechanical disadvantage?
cannot lift as heavy a load
with the same amount of effort, due to the position of
the effort and load from the fulcrum.
How does mechanical disadvantage work?
This happens when the effort and the load are both the
same side of the fulcrum but the effort sits closer to the
fulcrum than the load does
What lever works at mechanical disadvantag?
Third class
