Soc 17-The Structure Of The Respiratory System Flashcards
The respiratory system includes:
-nose
-mouth
-voicebox
-windpipe
-lungs
-bloodvessels
What do we need for our respiratory system?
-to get oxygen into the body
-to remove carbon dioxide from the body
-in sport of physical activity, the respiratory system and cardiovascular systems must work closely together to keep the body supplied with oxygen
Inspiration and exhailed air
Inspiration:20% oxygen,0,4%carbon dioxide
Exhalation:16% oxygen,4%carbon dioxide
What happens to our breathing when we begin to exercise?
-depth
-breathing rate increases
Vital capacity and tidal volume
-the greatest amount of air that can be pressed into and out of the lungs by the most forceful inspiration and experiation
Respiration
The movement of air from outside the body within tissues
Trachea
The tube that takes air into the chest, also known as the windpipe
Oxygen debt
The amount of oxygen needed at the end of a physical activity to break down any lactic acid
Anaerobic exercise
Working at a high intensity level without oxygen for energy production.
Vo2 max
The volume of oxygen an athlete can consume while exerising at maximum capacity
Diaphragm
The primary muscle used in the process of inspiration,or inhalation.A dome-shaped sheet of muscle that separates the chest from the rest of the body cavity.
Bronchus
Tube along which air passes from the trachea into the lungs.
Bronchioles
Smaller branches coming off the bronchi.
Alveoli
Tiny sacs at the end of the bronchioles, where gas exchange takes place.
Haemoglobin
A type of protein found in every red blood cell.
