Soc 15 + 16 Flashcards
3 mains functions of CV system?
Ciculates oxygen, provides cells with nutrients, remove waste products such as carbon dioxide.
+ clots blood in injury
What is vascualr shunting?
The widening or constricting of the arteries and veins to allow more/less blood around the body and to radiate body temperature
Vasodilation
Veins/arteries get wider
Vasoconstriction
Veins/arteries get smaller (lumen)
Characterstics of arteries
Takes blood AWAY from the heart
Characterstics of veins
Being blood IN to the heart
Charactertics of capilleries
Blood vessels
What is the CV system?
Cardio - Heart
Vascular - Blood vessels
Blood clotting
Blood contains PLATELETS helps clot blood and form a scab which stops bleeding and starts healing process
How does CV systemcontrol body temp?
Blood vesseles get bigger (vasodilation) to let the heat radiate out.
Blood vessels get smaller (vasoconstriction) to reduce heat radiation.
Vascular shunting
Increases bloodflow to active areas during exercise and away from inactive areas
How does heart rate increase?
Body releases adrenaline and diverts blood away from organs to active muscles
