2inches long
2% of population
Found 2 feet from iliocaecal junction.
Presentation.of meckels diverticulaum?
Can occasionally present with an acute abdomen as the diverticulum contains gastric mucosa which can secrete stomach acid.
Diagnostic investigation of meckels diverticulum/
Radionulceotide scan T99.
Symptoms of GI malabsorption?
Diarrhoea, steatorrhoea, wind, blasting, abdominal pain, weight loss.
What infection would you think of for malabsorption?
Giardiasis.
What does biopsy show in coeliac disease?
Villous atrophy.
What antibodies for coeliac?
T cell medicated inflammatory response with IgA.
Serum anti-TTG (must be introduce gluten for 6 weeks though)
What skin condition is linked and what do blood often show in coeliac?
Dermatitis herpetiformis
FBC - iron deficiency anaemia.
Diagnostic test for lactose intolerance?
Hydrogen breat test.
Symptoms occur fondue to a lack of the enzyme lactase.
Presentation of whipple’s disease?
HLA B27 +ve men who have abdo pain, skin darkening and arthritis.
PAS +ve macrophages and saggy mucosa.
Management of whipples?
Long term trimethoprim.
