What operation if tumour in caecum, ascending or proximal transverse colon?
Right hemi-colecromy.
Distal transverse or descending colon?
Left hemi-colectomy.

What is an anterior resection used for?
For low sigmoid or high rectal tumours.
Anastomoses usually achieved at 1st op.
When is an a domino-perineal resection performed?
When the tumour is = to 8cm from the anal margin.
Results in the removal of rectum and anus and permanent colostomy.
What supplies the right colon?
The SMA
What supplies the left colon?
The IMA
What supplies the small intestine?
the SMA
What does the coeliac artery supply?
The stomach, spleen and also becomes the hepactic artery.
What is Hartmann’s operation used for?
Resection of the rectosigmoid colon with formation of an end colostomy for emergency bowel obstruction or palliation where an anastomoses is not possible
Chemotherapy should be used for Dukes stage what?
Dukes stage C and above.
