Are adenocarcinoma.
Risk factors for colorectal cancer?
Age, Male, Polyps, IBD.
Lo fibre, high red meat, smoker, alcohol, obesity.
Genetics of colorectal cancer?
FAP: Hereditary mutation in AOPC that predisposes to early onset colorectal cancer
HNPCC: Hereditary mustations in DNA mismatch repairs proteins that predispose to colorectal, ovarian and endometrial cance.r
WHere does it metastasise to?
Liver lung bone Peroitoneal.
Screening is offered to who?
50-74
New test?
qFIT, much more specific, gives a value based on haemaoglobin.
Positive result seen in 2% with 10% of positive results being cancer.
DUKES stage 1-4?
1) confined to mucosa
2) Tumout invaded through the bowel wall.
3) Involvement of local lymph nodes
4) Distant mets.
What monoclonal antibody can be used for dukes stage 4 and distant mets?
Cetuximab.
Cancer marker?
CEA
How do you stage a colonic tumour/?
How do you stage a rectal tumour?
Colonic = Ct CAP
Rectal = MRI.
Chemo-therapy also offered to most people
5FU and oxaliplatin.
