What is the Dx criteria for OBS?
A
3 months hx of abdominal pain or discomfort for at least 3 days per week that is:
- relieved by defecation
- assoc with change in stool frequency
- assoc with change in stool consistency.
2 or more of:
- urgency
- bloating
- mucous PR
- poor sleep
- incomplete evacuation
- worsening of symptoms with tress.

Would you be woken from your sleep with IBS?
A
No.

Assessment of IBS?
A
General examination normal but w/ some abdominal tenderness.
Diagnosis is made on non +ve examination findings.

Management of IBS:
A
Avoid food triggers, reduce fibre, eat small regular meals.

1st line for diarrhoea in IBS?
A
Loperamide.

Bloasting / abdo pain?
A
Anti-spasmodic, meverbrine
