What is a skill?
A skill is a learned action or behavior intending to bring results
What is an ability?
An ability is an inherited, stable trait that determines an individuals potential to learn or acquire a skill.
What is an OPEN skill?
affected by the environment where the performer must react and adjust to a changing situation
Example of an OPEN skill
- cricket batting
- rugby tackle
What is a CLOSED skill?
skills are performed in the same way each time and not affected by the environment or performers within it
Example of a CLOSED skill
- diver somersault
- gymnastic routine
What is a SELF- PACED skill?
when a performer controls the speed, rate or pace of the skill and this happens when the performer decides to start them.
Example of a SELF-PACED skill
- table tennis serve
- cricket bowling
What is an EXTERNALLY- PACED skill?
when the speed, rate or pace of the skill is controlled by your opponents or by the environment these are started in response to an external factor
Example of an EXTERNALLY PACED skill
- badminton overhead clear
- football tackle
What is a GROSS MOVEMENT skill?
large muscle groups combining to perform big, strong, powerful movements involving entire body
Example of a GROSS MOVEMENT skill?
- triple jump
- football shot
- throwing a javelin
What is a FINE MOVEMENT skill?
small and precise movements that require high levels of accuracy and coordination. small groups of muscles
Examples of FINE MOVEMENT skills?
- throwing a dart
- spin bowling
What is a COMPLEX skill?
a skill taking a long time to learn requiring high levels of coordination and concentration
