What is MANUAL guidance?
Involves a coach physically moving a performer into the correct position or supporting them
Advantages of MANUAL guidance
+ good for complete beginners
+ allows the performer to develop the correct feel
Disadvantages of MANUAL guidance
- movement can feel different when someone else is moving your body
- a performer might not feel they are performing theirself
What is VERBAL guidance?
When a coach describes how to perform a skill or tells a performer something
Advantages of VERBAL guidance
+ useful for high level performers
+ highlights key teaching points
+ useful for sharing basic info and instructions
+ makes performers think
Disadvantages of VERBAL guidance
- can result in info overload
- can be boring
- hard to hear
- complex things often difficult to explain
What is MECHANICAL guidance?
takes place when objects or aids are used to assists in the coaching process
Advantages of MECHANICAL guidance
+ good for potentially dangerous skills
+ can allow a performer to gain a feel for a movement without fear
+ good for building confidence
Disadvanatages of MECHANICAL guidance
- equipment may be expensive
- performer can come to rely on aid
What is VISUAL guidance?
presented in a form that a performer can see
Disadvantages of VISUAL guidance
- demonstration or image must be good quality
- some skills to complex to demonstrate
- not effective if performers aren’t paying attention
Advantages of VISUAL guidance
+ useful for all levels of performers
+ allows performers to see what is required
+ can copy what theyve seen
What is feedback?
feedback is the information a performer receives about their performance
What is INTRINISC feedback?
information a performer recives about their performance from within
