What is arousal?
a physical and mental state of alertness/ readiness, varying from deep sleep to intense excitement
Stress management:
MENTAL REHEARSAL
Performing the skill in your mind before doing it for real. Ensures optimal arousal by blocking out distractions. Improves cognitive ability, stimulates muscle receptors
Stress management:
VISUALISATION AND IMAGERY
Imaging/ seeing a postive outcome. Focusing on how that performance should look prior to doing.
Stress management:
DEEP BREATHING
Taking slow, deep breaths can help calm breathing and return it to regular rhythm. This increases supply of oxygen to the brain limiting stress reducing heart rate
Stress management:
POSITIVE SELF- TALK
Reframing your thoughts through mantras- turning negative thoughts into positive words and hopefully actions, reducing arousal
