SKILL ACQUISITION: information processing Flashcards
what is the basic information processing model
input— decision making—– output—–feedback——input
Aspects of the information processing model (8)
display
receptor systems
perceptual mechanisms
translator y mechanisms
effector mechanisms
musculuar systems
output data
feedback
description of display
surrounding environment and information available some will be relevant to the performer and some will be irrelevant.
e.g. the ball has been passed to me
description of receptor systems
receptors used to sense information- vision, audition, touch (proprietors)
e.g. vision-players on both teams and space
auditory- shouting for the ball or player on
touch- ball at my feet, player behind me
description of perceptual mechanisms
information is interpreted and sorted. Through detection, comparison and recognition.
e.g. detection- who to pass to
comparison- past game situations
recognition- LTM response to when to pass
description of translatory mechanisms
information used to amend performance
e.g. motor programme is selected for the range of pass
description of effector mechanisms
once the decision is made impulses are sent via neural pathways to our working muscles.
e.g.knows who to pass to, so sends decision to muscles- angle of foot, power etc.
description of muscular systems
muscular contractions during movements creating the reasons (motor output)
e.g.angle of foot , power of pass- take back angle.
description of output data
the action is performed
e.g. pass is made
description of feedback
information comes from our memory or intrinsically (muscles) it can also come extrinsically (coaches)
e.g. player receives the pass, coach says well done.
what is the role of the STM sensory store?
a compartment into which information passes.
how long does the storage last for?
one second in which selective attention occurs.
What is selective attention?
A filtering process that identifies the information needed by a performer and disregards the less important information.
An example of selective attention
a football player taking a penalty will only focus on the ball and goal rather than the fans and other players surrounding the penalty taker.
