EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY:the heart Flashcards
what is dual action pump?
it has two sides, left and right. the right side pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs and the left side pumps oxygenated blood to the body.
the hearts pulmonary circulation
From the right ventricle to the bicuspid valve (AV valve)
The hearts systemic circulation.
from the left ventricle to the tricuspid valve
Structure, lumen size and blood pressure of the arteries
small lumen
high blood pressure
3 layers
Structure, lumen size and blood pressure of the capillaries
microscopic lumen
slow pressure
1 layer
Structure, lumen size and blood pressure of the veins
large lumen
low pressure
3 layers
What occurs at the lungs?
gaseous exchange between the alveolar and capillaries
what is the process of gaseous exchange?
4 molecules of 02 binds to 1 molecule of haemoglobin.
what does gaseous exchange produce?
this creates 02HB= oxyheamoglobin.
what percentage of oxygen is carried in the blood stream
97% carried this way WHEREAS 3% is carried in plasma.
